about

'Illusion II' is the second single of L Twills' new work
[After her Destruction].

Written and conceived in 2021, the work comprises a written script narrated in 11 video chapters, 22 musical pieces (printed as 12inch 2LP) and a hybrid liveshow. Therefore it should be understood as a multimedia opera.

In the ‘cybernetic sci-fi opera‘, the protagonist Girl embarks on a journey through her own mind to find out whether it has mutated. This is made possible by a computer programme called 'The Art of Mind'.
Throughout the journey Girl encounters diverse characters such as the Fortune Teller, who travels through time, the Mysterious Lady without Name, the Lady‘s Lover, a dancing Superego, a Mutant and her mother MOW (Manic Old Woman). Undergoing multiple epiphanies, Girl discovers that time can‘t be seen nor touched, that noone can possess beauty, that some people are afraid of change, that matrix translates as womb and learns to understand the schizophrenic nature of her very own body. In the course of Girl‘s search for love and freedom, mutation eventually reveals itself to be a portal to unknown territories of imagination.

From 2022-2023 the videos came to life in collaboration with filmmaker Helena Wittmann (HUMAN FLOWERS OF FLESH), a team of 12 people and international artists, dancers and activists such as Ophelia Young (Pina Bausch Ensemble, Ballett Basel), Elliot Reed (Moma PS1), Sibylle Peters (FUNDUS Theater, Tate Modern), Haiqing Wang, Anto López Espinosa, Don Jegosah, Luïza Luz, Suma Abdelsamie (Founder of LGBTQI+ Refugees Greece), Linda Elsner (Schauspielhaus Dortmund), Rebecca de Toro, Lexi Callimero and Frieda Toranzo Jäger (Reena Spaulings).

On 1st September 2023 [After her Destruction] was premiered live at
Popkultur Festival in Berlin. On 8th September 2023 the opera‘s opening scene Prolog [Mu‘tants] appeared online via METAL Magazine.

On 17th May 2024 the opera will be on full view as Krauß‘ first institutional solo exhibition at Kunsthaus Hamburg.

lyrics

1. take a second
take a second to lay me down
there is this feeling
i cannot explain
is it projection
or is it real?
Take a second

ref: i am drawn to your spell
your attraction irrestible
you seem to be so special

2. take a second
take a second to lay me down
there is this affection
i cannot explain
can it give me protection
its too surreal?
Take a second to lay me down

can you hold me when i fall
can you hold me when i fall?

Ref:
i am drawn to your spell
your attraction irrestible
you seem to be so special
